Dear Friends,
As you probably heard, I have decided to run for the Knesset within the framework of the newly organized “Green Movement”. (We may have a different name for the elections – I will keep you posted)
One million Israelis did not vote in the last elections. 185759 people voted for the Pensioners party which got them 7 seats in the Knesset. 47595 people voted for the Green Leaf party to legalize marijuana, 40353 people voted for the Green party –they were misled to believe that just because the title of the party is “green” so is the ideology and the world view of the party representatives (it’s like Egged painting their buses green so that people would believe that Egged cares about the environment. – don’t be fooled by a name or by first impressions) Another 18753 voted for Tafnit because they wanted clean politics.
We are seeking the support of those who didn’t vote and those who voted for one of the parties above in protest. The Green Movement is the real thing. This is the true new kind of politics that everyone is talking about. We hope to inspire people to understand that there is hope in politics – it is not all money and corruption. There are good and serious people who want to make government work for the people, who are political and social activists who have dedicated their lives to making this country what it really could be.
The Green Movement combines a true conviction that we are on this planet to make it a better place. We are trustees, not the owners. We are part of a region – a neighborhood which requires cooperation across borders for the benefit of all. We have to take responsibility so that everyone who lives here has the best opportunities to achieve a good and decent life for themselves and their families. We must address the inequalities and injustices in our society with sincere solidarity and we must fight for real social justice.
In short, we stand for living in peace with our environment – in its fullest meaning. This is what I stand for, this is what I have always believed in and worked for. I bring with me my integrity, my world view, my commitment to these values, my record of activism and initiative.
I need your support in the primaries of the Green Movement which will be held in the beginning of December. In order to participate in those primaries and to give me your vote, you need to join!
Please go to http://www.yeruca.org.il/index.php – sign up and help me get into the Knesset. I will be your voice and your friend there.
Thank you,
Gershon
